Role Purpose:

To secure, preserve and prepare CCTV recorded evidence and intelligence obtained from CCTV systems and liaise with other reputable CCTV monitoring sites, in the Force area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate will input to and agree CCTV strategy with the Senior Investigations Officer (SIO) at the commencement of a major criminal investigation. Responsible for the ongoing management of the CCTV strategy, ensuring the strategy document is updated, in agreement with the SIO as needed.
  • The post holder will Co-ordinate the CCTV trawl, retrieval and viewing during criminal investigations for both the Major Crime Unit and district-based investigations as required. This includes instructing and directing officers on investigative requirements, briefing them on their role in completing essential documentation, such as trawl and download sheets, and viewing logs.
  • The successful candidate will as required, complete trawl, retrieval and viewing as part of the investigation. This includes engaging with members of the public, attending both commercial and private premises to ensure the recovery and preservation of digitally/video recorded evidence and intelligence from CCTV systems.
  • Liaise with other CCTV monitoring sites, such as Council and public transport organisations, to ensure the recovery and preservation of digital/video recorded evidence and intelligence from CCTV systems.
  • Identify intelligence within the required timescales at the start of the investigation through dynamic examination of CCTV footage, and submit through the Major Incident Room to support moving the investigation forward efficiently.

Skills and experience:

  • Must be a full driving licence holder
  • The post holder should possess a reasonably strong disposition as there will be occasions when footage of a disturbing, upsetting or sensitive nature will have to be viewed and will include images of deceased persons.
  • Has excellent communication skills as you will have frequent interaction with members of the public
  • Attention to detail with the ability to assimilate information, identify discrepancies and direct action to be taken, information to be recorded with the ability to produce concise and accurate reports
  • Ability to manage own workload, prioritising competing demands from different operations to ensure the enquiries run to their maximum effectiveness and efficiency.
  • High level of computer literacy and be technically competent to understand the different mediums used to collate and retrieve CCTV and be able to attend court and assist in setting up the equipment to play the relevant footage and on occasions operate the systems in court for the jury/counsel.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 3 years has been identified for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
