We have exciting opportunities for Investigations Officer within South Yorkshire Police. As a key member of our investigation teams, you will be involved in supporting investigations into criminality across various investigative portfolios within force departments and local policing districts. This includes the areas of Vulnerability, Major Crime and District CID.  

This is an excellent opportunity to develop into a fully accredited Investigator through a force-wide programme. You will be provided with 10 week’s training and a further 12 weeks mentoring within a dedicated Investigator Development Unit.   Following this, candidates will commence their role within South Yorkshire Police, and continue on their career pathway towards achieving competence in PIP (Professionalising Investigations Programme) Level 1.

Subject to a suitability assessment and subsequent attainment of the national investigators, exam candidates will progress towards Professionalising Investigations Programme (PIP) Level 2 accreditation, and would be eligible to progress to the next band (Band D) £24,759 - £28,353 with involvement in PIP 2 serious and complex investigations.

Role Purpose:

The purpose of the role is to conduct/manage investigations, submit case files to enable prosecutions and to provide support and ongoing victim care throughout the investigative process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage routine investigations into criminality.
  • Interview and obtain statements from complainants, witnesses and ‘routine investigation’ suspects.
  • Conduct investigations at the scene, make house-to-house enquiries.
  • Gather and present evidence as part of investigations including cyber digital investigation.
  • Search premises.

Skills and experience:

  • Experience in working with the public.
  • Have excellent problem solving, communication and decision-making skills.
  • Be computer literate.
  • Hold a full clean driving licence.
  • Must be 18.
  • Must be prepared to be work a combination of days and afternoons, including weekend working.
  • Must be prepared to travel to other locations within South Yorkshire Police.
  • Must be able to physically undertake personal safety training.

A degree or equivalent qualification in law, criminology, social sciences or other relevant field is desirable but not essential and previous investigative experience would also be considered.

Eligibility:

A 12-month probationary period is attached to this role.
