Role Purpose:

To develop, lead, manage and deliver accredited training to all roles under the firearms training licence within Yorkshire and the Humber Police Forces, ensuring adherence with the AP APP, NPFTC, YatH, NPCC & CoP doctrine, guidance and policies.

Interviews for the role will take place on the 10th & 12th of June 2019

Summary of Main Duties:

  • To advise the portfolio holder and Chief Officer Strategic Groups in respect of all firearms training and operational matters – including firearms command and less lethal weapons training for non AFOs
  • Ensure the compilation and submission of the Police Service Quality Management System (PSQMS) annual self-assessment as required by the College firearms training licence prior to the 30th April each year.
  • Design and ensure the delivery of, the annual firearms training plan in line with the requirements of the firearms strategic threat and risk assessment and the training design SOP. Assessing and negotiating with component forces around bespoke needs, policies and budgets against National Licencing requirements. Including management and delivery of the National Specialist Firearms Officer Pathway Courses.
  • Maintain an effective and accurate audit of the delivery of all firearms training in order to evidence compliance against the officers’ role profile to support operational deployment.
  • Approve the delivery of and manage the risk in the safe delivery of all firearms and less lethal training (i.e. AEP and CED). This includes the use of AEP in public order and CED use by specially trained officers.
  • Ensure portfolios are maintained for every firearms instructor which clearly identifies the modules and units of the NPFTC which they are occupational competent to deliver as a lead trainer and the roles they can be operationally deployed in.
  • Identify opportunities for and co-ordinate the exploration of new ways of working and innovation in policing, applying critical thinking to identify solutions to problems in line with evidence based practice within own area of responsibility.

Skills and experience:

Further Information
