Role Purpose:

Post holder will be responsible for the repair, maintenance and servicing of motor vehicles, motor cycles, plant and auxiliary equipment owned, leased or loaned by South Yorkshire Police Authority. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for preventative maintenance to a high standard and servicing of police vehicles, plant and equipment.
  • The post holder will diagnose and repair faults on police vehicles, plant or equipment using manufacturers in-house electronic diagnosis equipment.
  • The successful applicant where necessary attend incapacitated vehicles at the roadside or vehicle base and recover or repair same.

 Skills and experience:

  • Must Possess a City & Guilds/ NVQ 3 in Motor Vehicle engineering or an equivalent qualification.
  • Must have at least 5 years’ experience in carrying out mechanical servicing/repairs to motor vehicles, cycles and plant, following an indentured apprenticeship, ideally in a main dealer outlet.
  • Must possess a full driving licence and pass appropriate SYP Driving Test.

 Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 3 years has been identified for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.

Any tattoos which could be deemed inappropriate or cause offence will also not be accepted. If you have tattoos, you will need to make a declaration at the time of application.
