We are seeking an enthusiastic apprentice as an Administration Assistant in our busy Community Safety Unit based in Hull. This is an exciting opportunity to work in supporting vulnerable community groups and developing pathways into policing.

The 1 year apprentice will work with our Community Citizens in Policing Co-ordinators, developing skills in aspects of administration linked to Special Constable Recruitment, Volunteering Policing and Police Cadets. The work will also support our Youth Engagement strategy with Humberside Polices Night Challenge and Lifestyle schemes.

The apprentice will be expected to help manage the busy workload within the team and will require the ability to balance the needs of the business with their requirement to complete their studies.

The candidate will be required to:

  • Answer telephone and email enquiries
  • Assist sorting and distribution of incoming/outgoing mail and scanning mail.
  • Prepare basic correspondence / word processing
  • Managing deliveries to the station
  • Maintaining IT files and diaries
  • Managing the Community Safety Unit SPOC email box and deal with correspondence queries
  • General administration tasks including ordering stationery, printing papers and preparing documentation
  • Greeting and dealing with visitors
  • Dealing with day to day correspondence
  • Small project opportunity
  • General administration tasks for the team and occasional support to the recruitment team when required, such as updating electronic systems.
  • Engage with external clients, such as applicants and supervisors across the force
  • Assistance with projects such as attending career events

These key duties and responsibilities are intended only as a guide to the main responsibilities of the post and are not intended to restrict the scope of the post holder to perform other duties. 

Your salary will be £11,866 for the duration of your 12 month contract. In addition to this, you will be entitled to 25 days annual leave.

Your main place of work will be Pearson Park Police Station. You will be expected to travel to other Force as required and appropriate with your role. Any additional mileage/ expenses incurred beyond your normal commute will be reimbursed.

This apprenticeship role is an entry-level position that would suit someone looking to develop a career within the public sector. You will be expected to study for a Level 2 Business Apprenticeship Qualification. Applicants should have a minimum of 5 GCSE Grade A*-C including English & Maths - IT/Business desirable or equivalents.

This apprenticeship is a one year fixed term contract. We are a large organisation and employment opportunities may develop towards the end of your apprenticeship, for which you would need to apply through our normal procedures. Please note there is no guarantee of a permanent position. We believe that the experience you will gain throughout your apprenticeship will significantly enhance your ability to find employment inside or outside our organisation. You will not be permitted to apply for any role with Humberside Police in your first 9 months.

Applicants must meet the minimum checkable history criteria for Rights to Work and Vetting, which must be taken into account for all individuals applying to work with Humberside Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history period of 3 Years has been identified for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedures is a pre-requisite of employment with us.


Please note Humberside Police have a sickness/ absence criteria of no more than 33 working days and/or more than five separate occasions of sickness absence in the previous 3 years. You must meet these criteria to be eligible to apply.
