What you need to know

The Professional Policing Degree Holder programme is aimed at those who have an undergraduate degree in Professional Policing.

You will be employed as a Police Officer from day one and receive a starting salary of £21,654. The Professional Policing Degree Holder programme is based upon the national curriculum for the Police Constable role, therefore applicants on this entry route will enjoy a shorter ‘on-the-job’ training programme.

Your probation period will be two years and at the end you will be signed off as a fully competent Police Officer.

If you have completed a Professional Policing Degree or are currently in your final year of study – Humberside Police is the ideal force for you to start your career as a Police Officer.

More about the programme

You will undergo a two-year training programme, during which time you will complete mandatory training such as personal safety and first aid. You will develop your core operational policing skills though a mixture of classroom and on the job learning. The initial learning phase of the course is held at Force Training Centre, Courtland Road, Hull. You will then be partnered with an experienced Police Officer who will be your dedicated coach. Independent Patrol Status will also be achieved, enabling you to respond to incidents by yourself - but don’t worry as you will be continually supported throughout.  It is anticipated that you will undertake around 13 weeks curriculum-based work.

Application criteria

  • Be 17 years of age or over to apply and 18 years of age by time of appointment. There is no upper age limit for applying to the police service but please take into consideration that the normal retirement age is 60.
  • Ideally you should hold a full, valid manual EU/UK driving licence. If you do not currently hold a full manual UK/EU driving licence, you must be hold one by the end of year 1 from the date of your appointment.
  • Have a history of regular attendance during education or in employment
  • Maintain a good level of fitness.
  • Comply with the our tattoo policy.
  • Meet vetting requirements – this means having no criminal convictions (some minor offences may be considered on an individual basis)
  • Have undertaken a Professional Policing Degree

 

Employee benefits

  • Salary - starting on £21,654.  At 22 weeks following initial training, increasing to £24, 780.  Reaching a salary of £41,130 after 7 years.
  • Shift pattern - As a patrol officer you will work four 12 hour shifts with four shifts off, providing you with a good work/life balance. Some specialist roles work different shift patterns, you should note that all shift patterns are subject to change.
  • Unsociable hours - You will be paid an additional 10% per hourly rate for every hour you work between 8pm and 6am.
  • Pension scheme - We offer a contributory pension scheme which is based on a percentage of your pensionable pay.  (12.44 % at appointment).
  • Annual leave allowance - 22 days annual leave, increasing to 25 after 2 years at PC rank.
  • ​Bridge pass - Provided if your usual place of duty is on the opposite side of the bridge to your home for use for journeys to and from work.

- All applicants who are successful at assessment centre will be invited to an additional selection test and in Force interview. Those successful at this stage will then be subject to pre-employment checks.
