Volunteer Cadet Leader

Community Safety Unit

Purpose:

To assist with the running of the Cadet Units in either Goole, Beverley, Bridlington, Hull, Grimsby or Scunthorpe by ensuring wellbeing and safeguarding of the Cadets, promote good citizenship and positive social action in young people

 

Main Tasks:

  1. Provide support weekly within your chosen unit by assisting with Cadet lessons and attends events
  2. Work with other Cadet Leaders to produce lesson plans and activities for the Cadet weekly classes
  3. Ensure the safeguarding and wellbeing of Volunteer Police Cadets
  4. Be a positive role model for Cadets
  5. Attend Unit meetings and quarterly Cadet Leader meetings when possible

 

Volunteer Role Commitments:

  • Initially attend virtual lessons on a Wednesday evening from 18:30 to 19:30. Term time only
  • Once normal service resumes to attend your specific Cadet unit from 18:30 to 20:30 for face to face lessons. Term time only
  • To undergo additional DBS vetting
  • To attend and pass an online safeguarding course
  • Attend Unit meetings and quarterly Cadet Leader meetings during the work week

Skills & Knowledge:

  1. To have basic computer skills
  2. Must be able to attend virtual meetings, use Outlook and emails
  3. Excellent Communication skills
  4. Previous experience of working with young people beneficial
  5. Experience of working in a police environment is desirable but not essential

 

Attitude & Personal Qualities:

  1. Passionate in wanting to make a difference to young people’s life
  2. A willingness to be flexible and perform various tasks
  3. The ability to deal with sensitive and confidential information in an appropriate manner
  4. A good team player that enjoys the support of others
  5. Having a professional yet friendly nature and being able to respect diversity
  6. Ensure integrity, fairness and consideration of the needs of others is incorporated into daily duties and relationship with colleagues

 

Training and Support:

All volunteers receive an induction held at Melton Police Station, and a Volunteer Handbook with all the information you will need to support you in your role.  Any additional training, such as Safeguarding will be provided by Humberside Police

You will have the Force’s Cadet Lead as a line manager, as well as the support of Volunteer Coordinator.
